When we are all wondering whether we are going to have a warm summer, on my circuit walk hope emerged. Our local swans have nurtured six babies, or should I be proper and say goslings. They did last year, but nature only let two matured to adulthood. Hopefully they will return when they have gone through their transformation.
The swan is a timeless goddess symbol and is a totem of the goddess Brigid. Called "Eala" in Scots Gaelic. Beautiful and haunting.
Swans are regal beautiful creatures that glide along the water effortlessly. Their feathers always look pure white. The swan has strong connections with Brigit, in Glastonbury and the story of Leda. The Swan stars in Swan Lake, Black Swan and The Ugly Duckling. Swans are ferocious birds that protect their young. They mate for life so represent faithfulness and is a great symbol for that quality in yourself and your loved ones.
When you see swans together, beak to beak you will notice that the shape of their necks creates the shape of a love heart.
The story of” The Ugly Duckling” by Hans Christian Anderson is a story of the transformation of the gosling through trials and sojourn to the beautiful, graceful swan. The swan takes a period of two years to go from duckling to regal a swan and this reminds us that transformation will take its own natural cycle. The Swan is Celtic and associated with Royalty and Goddess Sovereignty. Taken from Crossways Part 1 of 4 Helen Dickinson
